SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

Nancy C. McCaskell, CPL is president of Masonboro Energy LLC, a consulting firm focused on energy and landwork. During more than three decades of managing and leading acquisitions, divestitures and negotiations, she has held leadership positions with Pitts Oil Company, Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., J-W Operating Co. and Coda Energy Inc. Her experience stretches across the Barnett, Haynesville, Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, Eagle Ford, Permian, San Juan, Fayetteville and Anadarko basins. In addition, McCaskell has acted as a liaison with state oil and gas associations and regulatory bodies. She counts working with the Louisiana Office of Conservation to create new policies allowing for cross unit wells as a career highlight. Active in leadership roles at the local and national level, McCaskell sits on the Dallas Association of Petroleum Landmen board of directors and serves as AAPL’s president — only the second female in the association’s 70-year history to hold the role. Among her honors, she was named DAPL’s 2023 Landman of Year and received AAPL’s 2020 Blankenship Family Horizon Award, which recognizes an exceptional female land professional and role model. Additionally, McCaskell is an advisory member to the University of Oklahoma College of Law MLS and LLM programs in energy and natural resources, and she has served on several community nonprofit boards. She and her spouse, the Rev. Mary Stewart Hall, live in Dallas and enjoy traveling, art and music.

Nicol Thompson Kramer is a Shareholder at Beatty & Wozniak, P.C.  She has been in private practice in Casper for over 20 years.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Nicol worked as a financial auditor for Ernst & Young, LLP, in Denver, Colorado (her only 2 years not living in Wyoming). Nicol is a proud Wyoming native, raised in Wyoming’s energy industry and graduate of the University of Wyoming.  She has a wide variety of experience, having represented various natural resources stakeholders, including oil, gas and mining companies, pipeline companies, service companies, private mineral owners, private landowners and even governmental entities.  Her upbringing and breadth of experience gives her a unique perspective when advising companies regarding operations in Wyoming. Nicol's practice involves most aspects of law impacting the energy industry, including regulatory, transactional, administrative law, and litigation.  She regularly appears before the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she focuses on advancing our clients’ development plans.  She has also represented clients at the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Environmental Quality Council, State Board of Equalization, Public Service Commission, and in front of various County Commissions in Wyoming.  Her broad experience further includes negotiation of surface use agreements and resolution of disputes, drafting and negotiating various contracts, including sales and financing agreements, representation related to severance and ad valorem taxation and audits, royalty disputes, environmental regulatory permitting and compliance, administrative rulemaking, title curative, land use law and water law.  Overall, Nicol maintains a business-based emphasis in her practice and aims to achieve the best results for clients in the most practical and cost-efficient manner. In her free time, Nicol enjoys the outdoors with her husband and two daughters, participating in biathlon, skiing, biking and running.  She is involved with various community organizations focused on education and health, including Mandarin Chinese Dual Language Immersion.

Selman Akyol joined Stifel in 1999. Based out of the St. Louis office, Mr. Akyol is a Managing Director in the Energy & Power sector, covering Energy Infrastructure-MLPs. His past awards include ranking #1 and #2 in earnings estimates for multiple FT/StarMine and the Wall Street Journal’s Best on the Street Survey Awards. Mr. Akyol has been an analyst for more than 25 years, and earned his undergraduate and M.B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

As an air quality engineer for Rocky Mountain Energy Solution (RMES), Ben Wonderly brings a wealth of experience to the forefront of environmental engineering. With over eight years of combined operation, permitting and regulatory experience which extends across Federal, State, and Tribal agencies, Ben’s comprehensive understanding of State Title V and New Source Review permitting processes has not only deepened his knowledge but also equipped him with the unique ability to seamlessly integrate air quality compliance with the practicalities of daily operations.

Theresa M. Sauer is a shareholder at Beatty & Wozniak and heads its federal practice group. Theresa specializes in supporting energy companies on federal land access, species, surface rights and legacy environmental concerns. She counsels clients on the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) as well as operating mineral leases on state and federal lands. Theresa also advises clients on the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and related issues, including options for operating in special status species’ habitat, and works with federal regulators to process permits and documents. She is thorough, creative, and knows how to think outside the box to reach practical business solutions and achieve client objectives.

Craig Rowland is an attorney based in the Denver office of Beatty & Wozniak, P.C., specializing in regulatory matters before the Wyoming Oil & Gas Conservation Commission and the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission.  He works closely with clients to obtain administrative approval for drilling activities, advance clients' interests in Wyoming and Colorado, and ensure their compliance with state regulations.  While his primary focus is on regulatory matters, Craig built a foundation in the oil and gas industry as a title examiner on federal and fee lands.  He also advises clients on surface issues, transactions, and environmental regulations.  Outside of the office, Craig is also an active member of the Denver Association of Professional Landmen’s education committee and officer for the Denver Association of Oil and Gas Title Lawyers.  Craig was born in South Arkansas, grew up in Colorado, and graduated from California Western School of Law before joining the oil patch in Colorado.  Craig aspires to become an average golfer and enjoys road tripping with his three kids to find the most spectacular views in the West.
